Scorching heat... No breeze... No respite...

Welcome to my 121st post.

It's too hot outside... 42 degrees celsius... Scorching heat... No breeze... No respite... Only suffering!... I believe, only my ghosts can rescue us from this condition and bring smile in our faces. Here are a few of my nonsense rhymes in Bengali where ghosts dominate & rule.

Hope, henseforth you'll have some comfort and solace with the blessings of my cordial & friendly ghosts. This blog post begins with the master drummer, Bhootodrumon beating drums in his inimitable style ( a picture sketched by me). Please post your comments if you want.

My recent nonsense poems & rhymes.

My recent nonsense poems & rhymes.

I could not sit with my Blog since my 119th posting on 12 April 2014. The reason : the death of a close family member -  my very own, very dear brother-in-law, Salil (Gora) Basu on Sunday, 13 April. Salil was a top class hockey player, an excellent sports administrator, an active social worker and above all, a great human being, who always came forward when his help was sought. His interests were manifold and he was a regular visitor and an admirer of this Blog. I pray for the peace of  his departed soul. R.I.P Salil!

I always admitted that the legendary Bengali poet, Sukumar Ray has been my inspiration ever since my childhood and the funny yet nonsense ideas in his poems have influenced me knowingly or unknowingly, while penning down my own poems or making illustrations. Sukumar has left us about 90 years ago (Sept 10,1923) at the tender age of 36 (birthday : Oct 30, 1987). Yet his creations are evergreen in our mind irrespective of whatever age we carry.

This 120th episode of my Blog (with more than 7802 viewers worldwide) carries five of my recent poems and a picture by me in the beginning. Please post your comments/criticisms (by clicking the Button at the bottom of the page) to encourage me to proceed in the right direction.

What a way to go...

What a way to go...

From my early childhood through adolescence, I was frequently asked to publicly recite poems by my parents or elders for reasons best known to them. I invariably picked up poems by Sukumar Ray or Rabindranath Tagore and obliged everyone in the audience with my loud performances. Occasionally, I would pick up poems by other important poets like Kazi Nazrul Islam, Satyendranath Dutta, Dwijendralal Roy or Annada Shankar Ray or like and every time I would raise my voice unnecessarily, without knowing the nuances of recitation!

During those days, my primary choice of  poems was influenced by their rhymes & beats and not the contents, which I could hardly grasp at that age. I ventured to try my hand in writing poems for the first time, when I was a student of class/standard V at the tender age of eight. What an adventure indeed! Since then I have become an ardent lover of poems & verses. Whenever I can manage to get some time, I try to go through as many poems as possible penned by my favourite poets in Bengali, Hindi or English and in turn, get myself refreshed & relaxed!

This posting carries two of my childhood pictures (OMG!) along with a recent picture of mine and a family picture that features my wife - Sheila, my son - Ritam, my daughter - Soity and me, taken in mid-90's in Jamshedpur, India. And of course, some of my recent nonsense poems/rhymes in Bengali. Plus the 1st poem penned down by me at the age of eight!

I love fun. Simple fun.

I love fun. Simple fun.

And my mind is always on the lookout for something interesting that brings smile in my face. I want to feel happy - always. And I am content with whatever little I have in my possession. On introspection, I find myself a little bit of a loner who loves to live in his own world. In his own terms. There are times, when I find myself a self-proclaimed 'eccentric' who bubbles with nonsense and funny ideas and who loves to pass the buck to his friends through his nonsense rhymes and verses in Bengali.

The nonsense poems I love to write are devoid of any hint that may hurt others' sentiments or may cast any aspersions on anybody - friend or not. I love to draw cartoon based illustrations and I combine them with my nonsense poems in order to make them more lively and read-worthy. In simple words, I strongly believe that the world can be a better place to live in, provided all of us want it that way.

This post is my 118th. My Blog has crossed the viewership of 7550 or more and my readers from countries from as far as USA or Australia, or from as near as Bangladesh and Nepal continue to patronize me with their overwhelming support. I wish to express my gratitude and thanks to all of them through this post. The accompanying picture, a computer-drawn picture of a hunter is by me and is a bonus with the poems that follow.

Fun, whims, sarcasm, satire, wit, eccentricity and my nonsense poems...

Fun, whims, sarcasm, satire, wit, eccentricity and my nonsense poems...

I could not come to my Blog since the last weekend because of  preoccupations. Because of this unavoidable absence, I failed to post some of my recent poems - nonsense or otherwise in this Blog. While I do not follow any definite set of rules while penning down my poems, I simply follow my instinct and go by it. After I finish writing a verse, I view it first, then review it critically, add illustrations and then if I get nods from both  my head and heart, I post them in Facebook or in my Blog.

I wonder how my Guru and mentor, the legendary Sukumar Ray remains so popular even today. i.e., more than 90 years after his death in 1923. His nonsense creations are immortal and will continue to remain so for the next 100 years or more. Such was his power of humor! I feel proud when some of my readers cite his example while appreciating or criticizing my nonsense rhymes. Their comments & criticisms keep my desire alive to produce more & more funny poems that can bring smiles in the faces of my beloved readers.

Here in this post, I'll post some of my recent nonsense rhymes and a picture in the beginning. Please post your comments and criticisms by clicking the 'comments' button below.  Happy viewing...
