DEVELOPING COPIES & CAPTIONS ARE QUITE CHALLENGING !
Copies and Captions - two important aspects of Ad-making. The daunted task of reaching the right customers at the right time and at the right place is one of the the prime objectives of a promotional campaign. I still cherish the memories of creating some interesting lines for UTI Bank (now Axis Bank) long ago (year 2000). The following series of clips (10 Nos.) were used as newspaper Ad strips by them. Banking has undergone a sea change since then...

EMINENT FILM-MAKER RITUPARNO GHOSH IS NO MORE !
Today I am shocked & speechless ! Renowned film maker of international repute, Rituparno Ghosh (49) is no more. He passed away in sleep early this morning at his residence at Indrani Park, South Kolkata and was cremated with state honours with Gun-salute at the Siriti crematorium in the evening. Rituparno was a man of controversies. Winner of 12 national awards, Rituparno was an institution by himself. We may love him, we may hate him, but we can not ignore him at all. May his soul rest in peace ! My tribute...

THE CHALLENGE OF MAKING CALENDARS
Designing calendars are fascinating ! Deciding on a concept, converting it into a theme, then layout, then designing and finally finishing. Each stage poses a challenging task, because ultimately it has to satisfy the corporate client. I have been associated with the making of a number of calendars over the years with different concept & themes, but I feel it is the Tata Sponge Iron calendar that throws the daunting task before me, because of obvious reasons. The corporate house being headquartered in Joda, Odisha (India), every year a different theme has to chosen for them and all of them have to highlight Odisha - be it landscapes/seascapes/forests, its people, its cultures, its handicrafts, its archaeology... and so on and so forth. Till now, the challenges have been successfully faced. This time, I am posting the pages of their 2010 calendar featuring seas and beaches. Happily, the photographs are mine.

MY TRIBUTE TO MUMBAI
Well, it's time to congratulate Mumbai Indians for lifting the IPL Trophy - finally ! Mumbai is a great city that offers shelter & food to millions. The city has a distinctive culture and is ever bubbling with life. I salute Mumbai... yes, again & again... for what it is ! This time, I post a few pictures shot by me in Mumbai over the last few years.... This time, no nonsense-rhymes or verses, no cartoons, no illustrations, no artworks... simply, pictures of the lovely, lively city, Mumbai !

MY WORLD OF POEMS & SKETCHES !
Great poets Rabindra Nath Tagore and Sukumar Ray have always been my inspiration while writing poems. Of the two of them, Sukumar had a strong influence on me - knowingly or unknowingly, while I tried my hand in drawing sketches or cartoons or writing nonsense rhymes/verses. I am indebted to both of them for almost all of my literary works.
While Rabindra Nath was quite a boy (of perhaps 8 years), when he wrote his 1st poem : "Aamsatya dudhe pheli", he did not want to give it much importance or recognition, because he perhaps felt that any creation produced by him before "Bhanusimher Padabali" at the age of 16 was not mature enough !
On the other hand, Sukumar had 2 articles published at a very young age in the magazine. "Mukul", founded and published by the great author, Pt. Shibnath Shastri. The 1st accomplished poem of Sukumar is claimed to be "Khichuri" in Abol Tabol, published in 1914. Thereafter so many major works of Sukumar got published over the years and the Bengali language got continuously enriched through his creations.
Incidentally, I sketched my 1st poem at the age of 8 and it surprises me even today !

SOMETHING DIFFERENT
There are times when we like to confine us within ourselves. We just want to stay alone. We do not like to interact with anybody, nor listen to music or watch TV. Even we like to put aside our favorite reading materials. Those moments are very special to us and are just right for making introspection. It is as if, "Aamake aamar moto thhakte daao (allow me to pass my time as I want) !... This time no cartoons, no nonsense-rhymes, no photographs - just something different - my tribute to Sunil Gangopadhyay !
