Nonsense Rhymes and the International Spelling Day :
5th March is the International Spelling Day. I didn't have the faintest idea that a particular day of the year could be earmarked as the "International Spelling Day"! But, a fact is a fact is a fact indeed! And we have to celebrate.
I penned down a few poems/rhymes in Bengali, in which I tried to deal with a subject like this, though unsuccessfully. And here are are a few of them. These poems are not essentially nonsense rhymes, but are close to them. I fondly remember my Guru, Sukumar Ray's famous poem : "Ei dekho pencil, Notebook e haate..." in this regard and I feel spelling should get proper importance in our vernaculars and also in English. Only then, the rationale behind celebrating the "International Spelling Day" can be justified.
