Well... a nonsense rhyme is.... !

Well... a nonsense rhyme is... !

What is a nonsense rhyme? Is it a rhyme with no apparent sense? Or is it a poem that rhymes at the end of its lines and finally carry a funny or absurd meaning? Or, is a nonsense rhyme a verse that has a strong or subtle satire, or humor, or wit, or all of these - in it? Is is meant for a particular group of adults, or does it appeal to children as well?

The answer is... either any of these, or all, or none! Sounds funny & ridiculous? Frankly speaking, my nonsense rhymes pick the funny & absurd elements from life and are subsequently penned down to express my feelings. Or better still, should I admit that I myself don't know what a nonsense rhyme should actually mean. A photo taken by me at dusk in Jamshedpur, India is being offered as a bonus and has no link whatsoever with a nonsense rhyme. Should I call this sheer nonsense?!

Bengali Nonsense Rhymes/Poems on Ghosts !

Bengali Nonsense Rhymes/Poems on Ghosts !

Even a ghost can meet death ! Sounds interesting?

Well, in every country, in every language, ghosts have occupied a premium space in literature and in visual  or performing media. Even the legendary poet, Sukumar Ray, in his poem "Bhooture Khela" has described the activities of 'Panto Bhooter Jyanto Chhana' and its mother in his inimitable & unique style, where humor, and only humor is the keyword..

Myths about ghosts, their unpredictable activities, the elements of fear or fun attached with them or even friendly behavior of some - all these have driven me to write funny poems about the ghosts, some of which are nonsense in nature and some indeed not-so-nonsense. I also made certain illustrations myself in order to give them a visual look and to tell the stories in my typical way.

Today's posting contain some of my nonsense rhymes/poems in Bengali on Ghosts, And a photograph (where ghosts do not appear) taken by me with my mobile phone - as a bonus ! Happy viewing...

Celebrating the new year with Bengali nonsense rhymes & poems.

Celebrating the new year with Bengali nonsense rhymes & poems.

To most of us, the new year has started on a happy note. Lots of fun & frolic, song, dance, music, food... plenty of lights to celebrate the arrival of a young year and renewing contacts with old friends, sending best wishes through facebook, twitter and other social media - the list is endless. But, I'm not sure, how many of us have taken a resolution in the beginning of this new year to share our joy with the innumerable brethren of ours, to whom food, shelter, education, sports or entertainment are distant dreams. Well, why don't we share our joy with them?

On a lesser serious note, I am posting a few of my Bengali nonsense rhymes - funny yet subtle, witty yet colorful, with this issue of my Blog. Plus a picture of a water-bird, a gull, taken by me in Chilika lake, Odisha, India - as a bonus. Hope, you'll enjoy all these and will share your happiness with others.

Till then, happy viewing...

MY WHIMSICAL NONSENSE RHYMES & POEMS IN BENGALI !

My whimsical world of Bengali nonsense rhymes.

Happy New Year - 2014.

Through this posting, I send my very best wishes for a happy & prosperous New Year  through some of my Bengali nonsense poems with illustrations, penned down over these weeks & months. Bengali rhymes and poems are something that attracted my fancy ever since my childhood and I closely followed the works of Sukumar Ray, Annada Shankar Roy, Subhash Mukhopadhyay, Nirendranath Chakraborty and likes and of course, I cherished the creations of great Kazi Nazrul Islam and Rabindranath Tagore.

In the world of nonsense ideas and their presentations, Sukumar Ray is unique. His world of fantasy is something that only he was capable of to create and what takes us to a wonderland that we would ever enjoy to explore!

Inspired by Sukumar, I tried to experiment with my own, but I humbly admit that neither do I have the flair, nor the flamboyance of Sukumar Ray. At best, my nonsense rhymes & illustrations be called funny and whimsy, or even directionless. On the eve of the new year, I wish to share a few of them with you and thus this Blog. An old picture of my daughter, Soity taken in Gopalpur-on-sea, Odisha, India long ago is also being posted with it. I hope, you'll like this posting.

The oddities of life in my nonsense rhymes in Bengali !

The oddities of life in my nonsense rhymes/poems in Bengali !

The oddities of life have always drawn my attention and I tried to highlight the  'funny sides of life' in many of my poems, mainly in my nonsense rhymes and verses. Even fictitious activities like painting a picture of 'nothingness' (or air) or enjoying a recipe where 'fried ice' is the main item have found their places in my poems. Also featured in my poems are the agonies of a computer or its peripherals, the nonsense recipes or even a flying girl! To tell you the truth, I enjoy placing myself in children's shoes and see the world from their point of view.

This episode of my Blog features some of my nonsense rhymes/poems (with illustrations by yours truly) with all their unnatural oddities. Plus a photograph taken by me as a bonus. Hope, you will enjoy reading this issue.

GHOSTS AGAIN ! BENGALI NONSENSE RHYMES / POEMS.

Ghosts again ! Bengali Nonsense Rhymes.
Bengali nonsense rhymes have been penned down by a number of poets/authors including the legendary creator of nonsense rhymes, Sukumar Ray. But what surprises me is that there is a is a real scarcity of ghosts in their rhymes/poems. Though hesitantly, I've tried my hand in writing a few poems where ghosts play a major role. Posting here just a few of them. Plus an illustration by me at the beginning. Happy reading...

Nonsense Rhymes/poems in Bengali on Ghosts !

Nonsense Rhymes/poems in Bengali on Ghosts !

O my God ! Ghosts? That too as subjects of my nonsense rhymes in Bengali? I must be crazy - or so you may say. But, believe me, I enjoy writing poems on ghosts as much as I enjoy writing them on other subjects.
Ghosts are colorful characters (although their body complexion is 'black' most of the time) and they need not paint their faces with creams & lotions, fairness treatments or even sun protection formulas! I wonder why my Guru, the great nonsense rhyme writer and the legendary poet, Sukumar Ray did not touch these colorful 'creatures' even absent minded. I presume, it could be a deliberate move, as Ray did not want to glorify these 'supernatural elements', glamorize them and present these characters before the eyes of the mini readers. Or he himself did not have any fancy towards these creatures! Or I am afraid, I may have not been able to locate any such poem (even if there is any) from the vast stock of creations of the great poet !

Well, to me, the ghosts are interesting, thought provoking, and even friendly! They do not create panic all the time, as is commonly believed. To the contrary, they are occasionally helpful as well. Here are a few of my nonsense rhymes/poems in Bengali, where fun & frolic, facts(!) & fiction run side by side. Also today's posting contains a couple of photographs taken by me (of course, not of any ghost, but of children, who like or hate them the most).
