Funnily, I am 'serious'.

145th Posting :

The monsoon is about to give way to the autumn, when nature will start wearing a fresh look. The verdant fields will look even greener, the typical autumn clouds will float above and the general ambiance will bring joy in our minds. The festive season will begin soon and Kolkata will celebrate its famous Durga Puja with much fanfare. It's only about 30 more days and the preparations are already on.

Friends and relatives describe me as a whimsical person (aimless?!), who loves to perform 'erratic' deeds at all times! They even brand me as "unpredictable', when it comes to my so called 'creations'. Right they are! This 145th posting will showcase three of my recent so called 'serious' poems (which I seldom write), along with 5 (five) of my 'fresh-from-oven nonsense poems/rhymes' in Bengali plus 3 (three) photographs taken by me in the beginning of this episode. More than 12,187 of you have already viewed and patronized my Blog till now and I hope, you will continue to love my postings, as always. A BIG 'thank you'!

Happy viewing.

Funny poems... romantic poems... 'serious' poems!

144th Posting :

Funny poems... romantic poems... 'serious' poems!

A habitual defaulter, as I am, this time too, I could not come to my Blog with a new posting after having posted the last one on 12 August 2014. In the meantime, the Indian Independence Day (68th) was celebrated on 15th August and the World Photography Day on 19th. My absence could not present the opportunities before me in writing something to commemorate the special occasions. I missed the bus!

Past is past and I should not repent on what I have done during these days. I love to write poems of all sorts in Bengali (though most of them are humorous or funny), I love to make illustrations and I also love to take photographs. This issue of my Blog (144th) carries a mixture of my 'creations' - good, bad or ugly! A total of 7 poems plus a picture of a bird taken by me in Mangalajodi, Odisha a couple of years ago are being posted with this version. 11,961 of you have viewed my Blog till the 143rd posting of my Blog. A BIG 'thank you' to all and I hope, you'll continue to encourage me by visiting this place again.

Happy viewing.

A weekend gateway from Kolkata (India)

143rd Posting :

For a change, this 143rd issue of my Blog (with a viewership of 11,741) carry not many, but only one of my recent poems in Bengali and stories about a place you'd love to explore.

When the weather is pleasant and you are in the mood to get away from the din & bustle of the city, take out a weekend free in Kolkata and head towards Itachuna, where a sleepy mansion awaits your visit. Bargeedanga (derived from the name 'Bargee' or Maratha warriors), as it was initially called, Itachuna Rajbari was built by the ancestors of  Sri Safallya Narayan Kundu way back in 1766. Ornate beds, old fashioned mirrors, long corridors with checkered floors, large windows and doors, old lanterns and hand-pulled 'paankhas' (fans), colourful gardens - all will take you back to the old world, in which silence is the keyword. If you love incessant chirping of birds in the morning and crickets in the night, and wish to be detached from all your mundane tasks, Itachuna Rajbari is the ideal place for you to head for.

Itachuna can be reached by road from Kolkata by the Durgapur Expressway via the Vidyasagar Bridge via Halusai and Khanyan (about 3 hrs+/- drive) or by a Burdwan bound local train on the main line from Howrah. Get down at Khanyan (the 4th station after Bandel) and take a cycle rickshaw for a 20-minute trip to the virgin heritage spot, Itachuna (less than 2 hrs)). Though the amenities (including typical Bengali cuisine) are excellent in Itachuna that will remind you of the old world charms,  but for God's sake, please do not expect any heavenly 5-star hotel comfort here.

A mixed bouquette of poems today...

142nd Posting :

In India, today (10.08.14), 'Raakhi Purnima' or 'Raksha Bandhan' is celebrated between sisters and brothers.  On this full moon day, sisters tie 'Raakhis' (a sacred thread) on the wrists of their brothers to wish them long life and to strengthen the bond between themselves. A very auspicious day indeed. A picture is being shared with you in this post hailing 'Raakhi Purnima'..

On 7th August, the death anniversary of the legendary poet cum Nobel laureate, Rabindranath Tagore was observed. Tagore, as we know, is the poet who had written poems, short stories, prose and songs for almost every single mood of ours and thus is very dear to us. You'll find one of my recent poems on this subject.

Internet, the gateway to the world of knowledge finds a place in one of my very recent poems, and I wish to share this with you. Also I would like to share a poem that tells the story of a young son of a farmer, who has taken lots of pains & efforts to get himself educated. And finally, a nonsense poem in Bengali with some funny stories in it.

I do not know whether you'll like or appreciate this mixed bouquette or not. But, I am optimistic. Already 11,656 of you have been viewing my Blog till the end of my 141st posting. A big 'thanks' to you all. I am sure, you will patronize this 142nd posting as well.

It's about friendship, my friends!

141st Posting :

It's about friendship, my friends!

The 1st Sunday of August is gone... and with it, the Friendship Day. Friendship is always a sweet responsibility, never an opportunity - said Khalil Gibran. And I fully agree with him. My best friend is the  one who can bring the best in me. It's something you never learn in school, but you ought to know the meaning of friendship, or you haven't learnt anything. While during good times, our friends know us well, in adversity we know our friends. Helen Keller once said : "Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light. In fact, it's the friends you can call up at midnight and ask for help. And that matters.

In this post, you are going to find more than half a dozen of my recent poems in Bengali (nonsense or no-nonsense), plus a funny prose. And of course, a picture ("Half an umbrella for my friend") by me in the beginning of this post. Thank you my dear 11,516 viewer friends worldwide. You have kept me active. A big thanks to you all.
