When animals, birds or amphibians feature in Nonsense Rhymes...

When animals, birds or amphibians feature in Nonsense Rhymes...

It goes without saying that animals occupy an important place in our life. We may love them, we may hate them, but we can not ignore them - simply! They are indeed a part of our life.  Animals and birds have been photographed extensively by photographers or painted in their full glory by artists all over the world. In literature too, they have presented their faces through the creations of great or not-so-great writers - though most of them are associated with children's stories or poems. I too have tried to portray them occasionally through my poems or verses.

This issue of my Blog publishes some of my poems (with illustrations by me) where the animals, birds or amphibians occupy the centre-stage. I am not sure whether these can be termed as "nonsense"! The photograph of the cute kitten who agreed to 'pose' before the lens of  my mobile camera was taken by me about a year ago and is a "bonus" for you.

Do "nonsense" rhymes make any sense?

Do "nonsense" rhymes make any sense?

They say, nonsense rhymes do not make any sense! For some readers, at best, nonsense rhymes can only be used during "time-pass" in a leisurely manner and  there is no justification in giving them too much importance - by any scale! Of course, I respect their opinion, but at the same time, I agree to disagree with their views.

To me, each nonsense rhyme or poem makes sense (irrespective of language - in Bengali, Hindi, English or any other), carries a story and presents something funny worth readable. It may present just a simple humor, a satire, or a subtle touch of wit, or all of them. But I strongly feel that a nonsense rhyme should never reflect sarcasm in order to insult a person or his/her values, because the author simply has a different view. In this respect, I admire my Guru, the legendary Sukumar Ray or the greats - Edward Lear or Louis Carroll  and other stalwarts - for their impartial & clear visions while writing their verses..

Shifting from the serious side, I declare that I am a lover (and not a connoisseur) of good food and I even go to the extent of being termed as "greedy" by my friends and relatives! Most of the following poems in this posting speak of food in a direct or indirect way. And my picture in the beginning is a 'Bonus' - as usual!

Nonsense rhymes... Funny rhymes... All handwritten!

Nonsense rhymes... Funny rhymes... All handwritten!

Till date I have consciously avoided posting my handwritten poems in my Blog. I did not want my readers to take the stress of reading my handwritten nonsense rhymes or poems - however funny they may be! I don't know why, but my handwritten poems in Bengali suddenly caught my fancy tonight and I even risked losing some of my readers by posting them!

But, irrespective of whatever I have done (as an exception), I am sure, my esteemed readers will excuse me and will take the trouble of reading them and even commenting or criticizing  as they wish. The picture in the beginning has been drawn by me leisurely, using only the computer mouse and believe me, no pen/pencil/crayons or even paper has been used. This is a bonus for you all!

Limericks... satires... nonsense rhymes...

Limericks... satires... nonsense rhymes...

Contrary to the common belief that penning down a nonsense rhyme or poem is one of the easiest jobs that one can perform, it is not! A poem (in Bengali or any other other language) should tell a story, should carry a theme and most importantly, should attract the attention of the readers. Basically, I am a dreamer . To me, nonsense ideas pour in like gushing waters and I take the full advantage of it.

This Blog posting consists of seven of my poems along with a funny picture drawn by me with the help of my computer mouse. With  today's posting of the 91st episode, the viewership of my Blog has just crossed the 5000 mark (precisely 5005).  THANK YOU, READERS!

No nonsense rhymes or poems. Only serious pieces. In Bengali.

No nonsense rhymes or poems. Only serious pieces.

Different poems this time! No touch of nonsense and nothing funny, which I am familiar with. Yet all of them are close to my heart.

I admit that I am basically a loner (though my friends & well wishers hold a different view), I love to spend time all by myself and am very much touchy & upset when I lose someone, even if he or she is not directly linked with me. Basically, I am a follower of the 'old school of thoughts', though I love spending time with children and the youth and I admire them for the modernity of their thoughts and activities. Their fun, frolics & exuberance are sources of inspiration for me.

This time, I have deliberately chosen to present to you eight of my poems written on a serious note, through today's posting. No nonsense rhymes or poems. No fun. Nothing of that sort, And in my own dear, dear language, Bengali.

Read if you please, but, I can not say, "happy reading" this time.

The story behind my nonsense rhymes/poems...

The story behind my nonsense rhymes/poems...

Many of my friends and well wishers who love to read my nonsense poems & rhymes despite their busy schedules have asked me a very simple question : how do I pick or choose my subjects and how do I allow them to flower in my dear language, Bengali? To them and to others, my answer is simple : I view life from different perspectives & angles and spot the lighter side of it. Then I venture to put  those episodes into my nonsense rhymes - in a nonsense or funny way ! Sounds easy. Doesn't it?

There are times when I find this too difficult and poems do not appear in my mind as they should ! During those moments, I simply take myself off, divert my mind into some other things, however trivial or unimportant they may be! I even go through the pages of literary masterpieces by legendary Sukumar Ray, Rabindranath Tagore or Kazi Nazrul Islam and in turn, I regain my composure. I have noticed this formula to work well for me and even helps me to create again.

Anyway, without going into further details, better I post some of my Bengali nonsense rhymes or poems in this Blog and publish it before your eyes. The abstract photograph (taken by me) here is a bonus - as usual.

Can ghosts make good nonsense rhymes - in Bengali or whatever?

Can ghosts make good nonsense rhymes - in Bengali or whatever?

Ghosts make fascinating stories. They play. They dance. They eat. They romance. They sleep. And they die even. Most of us are not sure about their existence. And almost all of us have not been able to spot any or all of them. Yet they appear in our thoughts, our speech and even in our belief. Myriad stories have been woven where the ghosts featured in full glory. And they have been known to live in every country that feature in the geography atlas. This issue of my Blog is dedicated to these supernatural spirits. And of course, in a nonsense and funny manner. Should these pieces be called nonsense rhymes, verse or poems in my own language - Bengali? Well, I do not know. This Blog also contains a picture of a crow against the backdrop of moon. This picture taken by me is a Bonus for you. Well, as usual.
