Bengali Nonsense poems on World Kiss day & Valentine's Day !

Bengali Nonsense poems on World Kiss Day & Valentine's Day !

In this present issue of my Blog (my 101st), I do not wish to post my conventional nonsense rhymes or poems in Bengali. Instead, I wish to celebrate 2 great days through this posting.  And one of my photographs.

Today is "World Kiss Day" and tomorrow - the much awaited "Valentine's Day"! Without going into much prose today, allow me to post two of my poems in this Blog. Here are they.

MY 100th BLOG POSTING TODAY!

MY 100th BLOG POSTING TODAY!

Welcome to my 100th BLOG posting today! It's my great privilege to be amongst you through my postings and I must say a BIG "thank you" to you all for tolerating me and my creations for so long. I have been posting my photographs, my poems (nonsense or otherwise), my illustrations & cartoons and what not, and you have always extended your hand by encouraging me and viewing "robinscreations" with lots of patience and perseverance.

As on today, till the posting of my 100th Blog, 5700 pageviews have been recorded from India and countries like USA, UK, Russia, Germany, Indonesia, South Africa and others. I feel humbled! In this posting, for a change, I'm posting some of my prose pieces and an illustration in the beginning. In the next paragraph, a slice from my 1st Blog posting is being presented again.

"So... I've arrived ! Ya, it's totally a new world for me and I am quite unsure about what to Blog? Will they be just  my  poems... my literary articles... my sketches... my cartoons or caricatures... photographs composed & shot by me... or will they simply express my feelings, my thoughts? I'm still not sure !" -- (from Blog dated 11 October 2012). ... Please click the 'mouse' on the individual pics (prose/poem) and view the zoomed/enlarged version.

Bengali nonsense rhymes and the changing scenario

Bengali nonsense rhymes and the changing scenario...

The world is changing. All of us have become too busy and preoccupied with myriad activities. The material world has robbed many small things from our life, peace being the prime victim. Happiness has created a newer meaning for itself. Many a times, we forget to smile and often we find, work pressure has taken its toll on our lives. Whether we agree or not, smile & laughter brings happiness in us and will continue to do so even in today's hard pressed situation.

This posting contains six of my nonsense rhymes/verses/poems in Bengali accompanied by illustrations by me and a picture of a so called photographer (who almost looks like me) - as a Bonus. Please click on the pictures and view the zoomed version. This is my 99th Blog posting - just one short from the coveted 100!

Nonsense... nonsense... sheer nonsense...!

Nonsense... nonsense... sheer nonsense... !

So... we call them nonsense - sheer nonsense! But have you ever wondered why are they called nonsense? Is it because the rhymes, poems or verses highlight some funny ideas? Or is it because we are not keen to show our lacuna or lapses, which the nonsense rhymes, in a funny or sarcastic way speak about? Is being crazy about foods (or any other material) something we want to hide from others?  Is addiction to the social or electronic media eating away too much of our time, or the Internet is our only savior for every question/answer? I really do not know.

I find nonsense rhymes (in Bengali or any other language) quite interesting, provided they carry some "sense" in spite of being termed as "nonsense". I admire all the nonsense rhyme/poem writers - national or international, for their sense of humor and their magical capability in presenting before us a whole new world - full of funny & interesting ideas. In this regard, my Guru, the great Sukumar Ray stands tall in the world of nonsense rhymes. His 'creations' are still relevant despite his untimely demise so many years ago at the age of only 36 (30 Oct 1887 - 10 Sept 1923 AD)!

While presenting some of my nonsense rhymes (with illustrations by myself) through this posting, I wish to say that none of them have been created by me with the intention of hurting anyone's ego or sentiments. And I say it quite emphatically!

When nonsense rhymes are all about eating, eating and only eating...

When nonsense rhymes are all about eating, eating and only eating...

Food and beverages play a major role in our life. We may love eating, we may hate eating, but we can never ignore it. Some people like to eat foods and enjoy these as well and some (like me) just live to eat!  The choice is of course, one's own.

In every part of the world, irrespective of the languages spoken, foods and beverages have found their place in poems - nonsense or not. Here are eight (8) of my nonsense rhymes written in Bengali (with illustrations by me), which I believe will be liked by you.

Sport & pastime in nonsense rhymes...

Sport & pastime in my nonsense rhymes...

Many moon ago, when I was a young boy, the "Sport & Pastime" magazine (Eng) used to hit the stand every week. Founded by Mr S K Gurunathan of the Hindu group in 1947, it was a popular read and continued to be published till 1968.

My Blog in Bengali, containing mostly nonsense rhymes & cartoons has nothing to do in particular with the great magazine of yesteryears, but while handling a copy of S&P by chance in a library after so many years, I thought why not my poems & pics (cartoons) that feature either sports or pastime or both may find some place in one of my Blog (postings)?! They idea may seem funny or ridiculous, but well... here it is!

My nonsense rhymes in Bengali and my tribute to the legendary Sukumar Ray...

My nonsense rhymes and my tribute to the legendary Sukumar Ray...

I have always proudly acknowledged the influence of the legendary Sukumar Ray upon my creations. I still wonder how could he express his lines with such simplicity and ease irrespective of whatever he wrote. I am not going to tell you much about his creations (which you are already aware of) and instead pay my humble tribute to him through six of my poems and an illustration by me.
